St Patrick Kneeler

Hello everyone,

We are so busy around here at My Cozy Corner. Our bedroom set was delivered and I have the Master bedroom almost put together. Our painter is painting the new french door to the patio as I write this post. But now I want to share the latest kneeler I finished and donated to our church. For the past year and a half I have completed three kneelers. This kneeler is dedicated to our son, Patrick. He was born the day before St. Patrick's Day in 1964. He was a faithful acolyte for many years during his youth. 

I love to do this needlework...The color and the design are so beautifully matched to form a bright and interesting design.

The kneelers are done. 

St. Anthony of Padua was dedicated on the same day my kneeler was dedicated.

BEAUTIFUL

We have a very talented group of stitchers or needlepointers.

The saints kneelers are stitched five holes to one inch.

The four Evangelist kneelers are stitched with 7.5 holes per inch.

We are back to the beginning of my stitching journey where I started a year and a half ago.

What a wonderful  and joyful experience.

Cecilia is my middle name and I dedicated this kneeler to my mother and father.

St. Thomas is dedicated to Thomas our son the eldest of our three children.

St Patrick is dedicated to our middle child.

The Easter Service was beautiful. The choir are amazing and the church was filled to capacity. The large flower arrangements were donated in remembrance of loved ones and the Easter lilies were donated by a member of the church. I wrapped the pots with burlap and tied them with a piece of twine. 

 I already have new ideas for the lilies next year.

St. Thomas Kneeler

Hello everyone,

I have been doing some needlework again. This kneeler is #2 in a series I have finished. This kneeler is dedicated to my eldest son. In the early seventies he was an acolyte performing ceremonial duties such as lighting altar candles and assisting the celebrant in the performance of liturgical rites.   

Our son is named after his father Thomas, but not a Junior.  Our son's middle name is the same as both of his grandfathers. I think it's very interesting how parents decide what to name their children. There is always a story... 

The Apostle St. Thomas 

Four new kneelers were dedicated on December 14th. 

Four more kneelers are in the process of being completed and will be dedicated after the Christmas season is over.

St Thomas is the patron saint of Craftsmen, such as Architects, Carpenters, Masons, Geometricians and Theologians. The symbol on the kneeler is a builder's square. 

What I find interesting is to know my son has been a  General Contractor for more than 20 years. He is very talented and loves his work♥

Today I decorated the church's alter for Christmas with poinsettias and prepared the church alter in red for the Feast of St. Thomas being celebrated on Monday December 22nd. Each year the feast is celebrated on the 21st of December, but this year the feast fell on the fourth Sunday of Advent. The Christmas color will be white until January 5th.   To see the other kneelers Go HERE

A Labor of Love

Hello everyone,

Whew! I can't believe I've been working(procrastinating) on this kneeler since April. It was a labor of love. I didn't want the pleasure of doing the needlework to end. It's like reading a good book and not wanting it to end. But, now I have two more to do by Christmas and I'll be hustling right along. 

The dark blue was hard to see unless I was in good afternoon light. I've learned so many short cuts, that I hope I'm a little faster on the next two. To see the complete story of a Church Kneeler

Story of My Kneeler

Hello everyone,

Easter is only a couple of days away. I will be busy this weekend, since I'm on the Altar Guild.  If some of you are not familiar with the duties of the Altar Guild this is our purpose.

It is the ministry of the Altar Guild to care for the altar and the sanctuary of the church and to prepare the altar and sanctuary for any services that are to take place. In addition to preparing for weekly services, our responsibilities include caring for the altar linens and vestments, caring for the vessels, candles, offering plates, etc., ordering and maintaining supplies, preparing sanctuary for church related services, holidays and events. Our work as the Altar Guild is a quiet, behind-the-scenes way to serve the church; no previous Altar Guild experience in necessary.

While visiting England in 2011, we visited  St.Peter's, Monkwearmouth built in 674 AD by Benedict Biscop. St. Peter's is one of the oldest churches in Britain, where Christians have gathered for more than 1300 years.This is a place of worship and prayer, pilgrimage and mission. To see complete post:   Go Here

I was so captivated by the beauty of the church kneelers I wanted to make one myself. Now a few years later I'm making  a kneeler  in memory of my Mom and Dad. 

My kneeler will be one of 20 used at the altar rail.  
My favorite kneelers in this photo are the poppies and St. Peter's Church

My middle name is Cecilia and I love St. Cecilia the patron saint of Music. 

The kneeler is cross-stitch in wool yarn. This is a pre-made kit ordered from England. 

Wool, needle, foam pad and backing are included.

The stitches go in one direction to the left and turn the corner and cross over the stitch going to the right. There are five stitches to an inch. The piece is started with the darkest color and worked to the lightest color.

As you can see I haven't gotten very far...Two rows. Being out in the yard is very tiring and I need good daylight to see the dark yarn. I will be busy after the Garden Tour finishing my kneeler.

When I finish the kneeler I will do a post on the complete project.
