Tablescape # 59 "As Time Flies By"

Hello Everyone,

Yes! Time Flies! I can't believe it's going to be 2013 in a couple of days. I have some project ideas for the new year and I'm excited to get started.  But first we need to celebrate this New Year's Eve.

I've had the inspiration for this tablescape from the moment I saw Susan's @ Between Naps on the Porch  'Clock Plate' tablescape. I was hooked!

I loved the idea of CLOCKS. We do watch the clock waiting for midnight to bring in the New Year. It's sometimes a challenge for us old fogies to stay awake until midnight, but I love to stay up and watch the ball drop in New York and watch all the people in Time Square waiting so long to celebrate New Year's Eve in NYC. How exciting it would be to visit New York City on New Year's Eve.

I found the clock ornaments  at TM in August when the Christmas ornaments started to arrive.

Only one December 31st per year. Only one 2012.

'As Time Flies By'

I love to try new things with my camera. I was excited when I saw this shot. Looking thru a glass and seeing another glass is awesome in My opinion! 

The black tablecloth is a great backdrop for the gold place mats and the china trimmed in gold.

 The gold glittery trim on the napkin edges and golden napkin rings match the glitzy decor. 

 The hurricane was used as the glass for a kerosene lamp when the power went off due to bad weather.

This is the back of the one of the clocks. I love the beaded work and the golden fabric.

 Does it look French? Or maybe a beautiful beaded gown worn by a movie star.

The  classy place mats and delightful napkins are my favorite. 

The beautiful stemware is from  my mother's glassware collection.

The shimmering golden candle is just perfect for an evening to remember.

 The light will shine on a brand new year - 2013

A BIG Box of Candy

Hello Everyone, 

How About This BIG BOX OF CANDY?

I can't believe what a great gift I received from my daughter and granddaughters.

Whitman's® Sampler® has been my favorite candy for decades. 

Stephen F. Whitman began making chocolates in 1842. In 1912, Whitman's Candies had been in business over 70 years. They had many successful chocolate assortments .

Whitman's new $1 "sample box' contained candies from their ten best-selling boxes. 

The new box was created as a sampling promotion and was never intended to last more than a year.

Today a Sampler® is sold every 2½ seconds. 

You do know what you're gonna get.

The Sampler®was the first box with an index showing each candy inside-now, a boxed chocolate standard.  The index may well be credited with bringing an end to the era of candy pinchers - those unpopular folks who poke a chocolate to find out if it's a caramel or a cream.

The sweetest design that will last 100 years.

A needlepoint sampler hanging on the living room wall of Walter P. Sharp, President of Whitman's in 1912, was the inspiration for Whitman's new "sample box" and The sampler look with its delightful cross-stitch design of birds, animals and flowers was charming and unique.  It was a fitting tribute to showcase the quality and excellence that made up their new package that contained candies from their ten best-selling assortments. And the sampler name was perfect. 

The candy that keeps on giving! We enjoyed the candy and now the beautiful needlepoint sampler box is used for my scrapbook paper. It's a perfect size to hold paper and extra pages and extra page protectors. 

I have 2009 to scrapbook and then the world of blog came into my life. I have some mementos from my trips to Europe and I will scrapbook our anniversary trip in 2010 and I have some mementos from England and Scotland that need a stable home. Of course our trip to Hawaii is another small scrapbook too.

It will all get done to due time...

Cellophane from Paris

In the early 1900's Stephen F. Whitman's son, Horace, returned from France with a sample of cellophane. He thought it would add to the freshness and brightness of Whitman's boxed chocolates. He was right - the addition of cellophane immediately increased Whitman's sales, Whitman's quickly became the largest user of cellophane in the country. The company continued to import from France until 1924, when DuPont began manufacturing cellophane in the U.S.

Little Bits of Holiday Cheer!

Hello Everyone, 

I have a confession to make. I missed some great parties during this 2012 holiday season. 

I'm here to give you the rest of the Holiday Cheer around My Cozy Corner.

My sister sent this beautiful wreath to Sweetheart and I to hang on our porch.

and

I found this paper church at yes! TM.  It fit wonderfully under the white feather tree this year...

A little outdoor snow scene under the feather tree this year.

The ice skaters are from our old train display. When our children were small we had a complete model train and a town displayed under our Christmas tree each year. The skaters were part of the scenery. 

These golden reindeer were under the feather tree last year. This year they are pulling Santa's sleigh.

The steam locomotive was part of the train display in the old days.

Ready for Tea? RED AND SILVER~Wow!

The little church, tiny Christmas trees and deer are from the old train display. I've had everything in a box for over 35 years. It was great fun getting the miniature decorations cleaned up and painted.

I love Red this year in the dinning room. A vintage wall hanger is so handy to decorate.

I have a few angels in the living room and a vintage clock. Reminds me of the 18th century. 

Oh my goodness it's an 18th century Seth Thomas Clock!

I have the side board set for Tea with a box of English crackers to pop at Christmas Dinner.

A pair silver candle holders my sister and I gave my mom and dad for their 25th Wedding Anniversary

Just a cozy spot to read in the living room.

Hi Santa: You are so cute sitting in your sleigh. 

He really is an old stocking holder our children had when they were small. He just fit into the sleigh perfectly.

Santa looks real comfortable sitting with gold glittery ornaments and some pine cones around him.
