Fall Mantel Before and After

Hi everyone,
I've been slow posting this past couple of weeks.
Hubby and I attended our son's wedding in September
and took a little vacation to where my father was born in 1917.
We stopped in Laughlin Nev. and then we drove to
All I can say is that the experience was a hoot.
Before I left for our trip, I did my fall decorating.
I bought new pillows for the sofa and
decorated the mantel for fall.
This summer was so busy I didn't have a chance to
share my summer mantel.  I love my plates and birds.
Now it's time for fall, and I love this year's look.
I finally found some pumpkin plates at TJMaxx.
I wanted to keep the mantel simple.  The orange
and different shades of autumn colors enhance
the color my brick fireplace.
Decorating my mantel is always a joy.  I love the
beautiful velvet pumpkin. Soft and colorful
is perfect for my simple look.
Last year I bought the jar jewelry for my mason jars.
I stored them away in my stash and this year I
fluffed them up a bit and sat them on the mantel.

October is going to be a busy one for this old lady.
Next week I will be entertaining my church
Altar Guild for tea and my sweet sister
is coming for a visit too. Sister Time.
Thank you for visiting.
Joyously,
Betty

Winter Mantel with Buffalo Print Plates

Hello everyone,
We are continuing our tour of My Cozy Corner.
January is whisking by and I want to move into the living room for a look
at the mantel decorated for the Winter months... The last time you
stopped by I shared with you my favorite room.  Go Here.
Our living room is where we live most of time.
Our home has four bedrooms and two baths.
We have a large country kitchen and dining room combination
with windows to see all the outside acitivity.
Now that El Nino has hit Northern California it has been raining for
most of January. We are enjoying watching the football playoffs
and of course Downton Abby on Sunday night.
Now to share my Winter Mantel.
During 2015 I used decorative plates on my mantel.
During Christmas I had a pair of adorable deer plates on the mantel Go Here
I am going to continue the decorative plate theme this year.
I plan to have these red and black buffalo print plates until March.
I think they will work for the month of February.
The red ribbon on the wreath and the red bands
around the fir trees looks very festive.
WISHES OR DREAMS?
I dream about taking a trip and dream about the summer garden.
I wish my family and friends good health, happiness  and prosperity.
Today I am so blessed to have a wonderful hobby of blogging.
The boxwood wreath is my January wreath. I added a new red bow this year.
About a week after Christmas I went shopping and found some great deals.
All the holiday things were on sale at Pier 1.
I found two faux fir trees in the cans for 50% off.
The buffalo plates were on sale at Rite Aid for $2.00 dollars each.
I love when I have an idea and it falls into place.
I have some vignettes and pillows to share
with you in a few days.  I hope you come back
and see my cute pillow I received as a gift
from my granddaughters.  They helped G'pa buy gifts this year.
 I scored.

Christmas Home Tour 2015

Hello everyone,
We are at the countdown to December 25th. I wanted to
share some of my holiday decorations with you.
I have the dining room finished and the master bedroom, but today
I'm going to share with you our living room.
Let's start with the mantel. I am continuing my plate theme
on the mantel. I have used different plates all during
this year. These cute little deer plates I found at Walmart and I bought
another pattern I will be using on a little tea table later
this week.
Red Cardinals are so beautiful and I wanted to use them this year
on my mantel.  Little red berries are accents in the greenery and
a small Red Cardinal is on each plate.
A sweet Red Cardinal nesting by a hurricane.
Last year was the first year I have hung a banner across the fireplace.
I decided to put up another banner this year.
While I was shopping for some decorations at Rite Aid
I found these little stockings.
The Red Cardinals and Deer on the wreath were on the banner last year.
GO HERE to see last year's banner.
While my son was visiting at Thanksgiving, he bought this
holiday hanger. The mistletoe ornament was the perfect match.
Now we are going to see the true meaning of this holiday.
Yes, the birth of our Lord.
A tray full of seasonal icons.
Deer sheds, jingle bells, bright red ornaments and
pine cones.
The tree is decorated and stands in the corner next to the window.
I love looking at Christmas trees in windows of homes as I drive down our street.
I have angels and some red and gold ornaments.
Gold and silver beads are draped around the tree.
Once again the holy family and the three wise men in a cloche.
I don't use real candles, because of the danger of fire.
The hurricane is a thrift store find this year.

Hope you enjoyed my Christmas tour and thank you for visiting.

Mantels to Centerpieces!!!

Hello everyone,
I'm so happy to be here today to share a few ideas with you about
Thanksgiving mantels, I was thinking you could use these ideas for a
Thanksgiving table centerpiece too. When I was looking back at these mantels
I noticed I have a theme each year and I create small vignettes on
my long mantel.  The top mosaic is called Fall Abundance.  The cornucopia
is overflowing with fruit. The different photos could be used as individual centerpieces.
In our home we have beautiful wildlife art work. Our son carved a wooden duck decoy and I love to collect plates. Fall colors look wonderful in our living room and I try to use our favorite family mementos when decorating our mantel.
Pumpkins and Turkey plates are the theme for this mantel. The little squirrels
and a plate with a pumpkin is a nice vignette or centerpiece.
This year I created a mantel with simple canning jars and jar jewelry.
My vintage plate and plenty of wildlife feathers are adding some colorful interest and texture to the mantel.
Well, there you have some ideas for a Thanksgiving mantel and or a
Thanksgiving table centerpiece.
Thank you for visiting and please come back soon.
Joyously

Late Summer Mantel Before and After

Hello everyone,
We actually are going to have a cool down in the weather this weekend. I will be in the garden weeding and cleaning until it's finished. While the weather was hot outside I cleaned the whole house inside and changed the mantel for the next month or so...I can't wait to put my pumpkins out this year.
Since the first of the year I've been using plates as the main interest on the mantel. Go Here to see the Before post. My green plates with bird accents were so delightful all spring long. And now I have some new birds.
I love wildlife photography and artwork (Go here to see my favorite piece) of any kind. I found these  beautiful duck plates at Tuesday Morning and in the basket they went.
The plates have a Mallard Drake and Mallard Hen swimming in a beautiful pond.
The Mallard Salad plate is Queen's Made in England. The White china dinner plate is Ralph Lauren. Hurricane candle holders have been around since the early 80's. The little wooden duck I bought from a little Mexican boy on the street in Mexico while traveling to the Panama Canal.

I found the metal basket at the thrift shop for $5.00 dollars. I was going to hang it on the front porch, but I love it in the living room decorated with some feathers and bittersweet.
When I was a young girl my dad would go duck hunting every fall and early winter. He would come home with Mallard, Wood duck and Spoonbill. I would help him pick the feathers until the birds were plucked clean. Then my mother would roast the ducks in the oven on Sunday. What a delicacy to have roasted duck on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for visiting me today and I hope you have a great week.
Joyously,
Betty

Plates for All Seasons

Hello everyone,
Summer is in full swing.  Since the first of 2015 I have decorated my mantel with plates.  Dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates and decorative plates.  I've found plates are just not for serving food.
I found these colorful plates at Barnes and Noble.  The set of four salad plates were perfect for a Tea Time tablescape, but two plates would look great on my summer mantel.  The plates reminded me of the mid-summer blooms in the garden.
The gentle watercolor painted flowers are soft flowing and romantic.
I added black candle holders to match the plate holders.
I found the wall hanger for my faux boxwood at the thrift store.
I was thinking I would the wall hanger on the front door this fall..

During the Spring months I places these adorable green, black and white dessert plates with black and white time on a square white plate for the background.
I enjoyed this mantel this spring. I used my square boxwood wreath with a burlap bow and boxwood in green vases. A cute bird to accent the time of spring. And to accent the birds on the dessert plates. Brass candle holders with glass hurricanes and green candles. This arrangement and color combination goes so well with our brick fireplace.
A little closer look
Well, we have come to the beginning of 2015. After I packed away the Christmas decorations I had my plan for the PLATES OF ALL SEASONS,
I started with my boxwood wreath and a red ribbon. I had a set of four valentine plates that I knew would look great with the cute valentine banner I made.
The felt heart banner was made from Christmas ornaments  I found after Christmas on sale at Macy's...Red Cyclamen plants add to the texture of the mantel.
