June Garden Journal 2015

Hello everyone,
This is the last of June and I wanted to share with you the progress of my summer garden. The heat is one hot mess, but I have a wonderful watering system and my plants are doing fairly well in this scorching heat. (113 degrees Wednesday) and cooling to 104 on the 4th of July.   The day lilies are blooming every day and I love when their blooms are surround the cupids in the birdbath.
T
My fern grotto is growing nicely. My lemon tree and jade plant are in the shade and that is a good thing.
The yellow cannas are blooming nicely too. In a week or so they will be finished and the Black Eyed Susans will be blooming in the month of July.
I have a boston fern and a tree fern in the big pot. The boston fern loves the patio and so do I.
The shade in the pergola area is doing wonderful I forgot to take a photo of my beautiful hostas blooming in the shade of the big old tree. I will try to remember next month. Hopefully my granddaughters will help me put some lights on the pergola for some evening dinners in August.
My wax begonia was in the house this winter and all she did was pout. I don't water my plants in the house everyday, but outside I have an automatic timer and the water goes on everyday for ten minutes and waters all the plants you see.
When the weather cools down, Sweetheart and I are going to have a painting party and repaint the blue bench and a few other things.
The wax begonia, ferns and angels.
Pin a mosaic and visit often.

See you in July for some 4th of July fun.  I have a couple of posts for the celebration.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
Joyously,
Betty

Picture to Pillow Before and After

Hello everyone,
I have another Before and After project to share with you today.  While getting the patio ready for summer I was looking for more vintage style pillows to add to the swing. I was in the thrift shop and found a needlework picture for $5.00 dollars. I knew it was going home with me and I could make a small pillow with the needlework bouquet of flowers.
I found an old white tablecloth I was no longer using and I had a little 12 x 12 pillow form in my stash. I took the picture out of the frame and pressed it with the iron. I put a white zipper in the bottom that I found in my mother's sewing notions. Lucky me a pillow for $5.00 dollars.
Put the pillow on the swing and Da Ta cuteness!!
I love to do needlework, but this was so beautiful and already finished.
My little angels are watching for the stray cats from the neighbor's that keep coming over and making themselves comfortable on my swing and chaise lounge.
My granddaughter was visiting me last week and we came outside to enjoy the patio. She loves to swing...She has been swinging on this swing most of her life. I think it must be back sweet memories for her.
I love the little blue cross stitch on the bottom.
Pillow for the Patio swing.
Thank you for visiting and please enjoy your 4th of July holiday.
Joyously,
Betty

Nap Time

Hello everyone,
Summer is off to a wonderful start.  June has been a fun month for Sweetheart and I. We have been resting more now that our update is complete. I'm still adding some details to the master bedroom and blogging about my garden.
But I needed a day to retreat from the daily duties and I fixed myself a tray and some tea and toast for my nap time. I slipped into my guest room for some
SELF CARE.
I picked a rose from each of my favorite rose bushes and put them in my angel vase.  I found a new tea cup at the antique store and couldn't resist the beautiful green inside the tea cup and saucer.
While at the antique store I found a vintage toast holder. I couldn't resist this sweet tea time toast holder.
My grandma's vintage silver butter knife and tea spoon.
I lathered the cinnamon raisin toast with butter and it's so delicious.
The sweet cup has a beautiful green trim inside the cup and little flowers on the outside.
The sweet flower pattern is also on the inside of the tea cup.
The name of the tea cup is new to me.

A little mosaic to remember my favorite nap time.
Hope you have a great week and thanks for visiting today.

Hydrangeas Before and After

Hello everyone,
How about those Hydrangeas? I love, love, love hydrangeas. They are continuing to grow and bloom. We have been having a real hot spell and these fun loving plants love their feet cool all the time. When the hot sun beats down on the beautiful blooms I can see the tips of the flowers getting sun burned. I wish they had sun screen for plants. LOL.
I have my angel sitting between them. I hope she can help with the sun god.
This photo is my BEFORE shot.
I think I've come up with a solution to save my poor hydrangeas from the intense sun. I do have the plants in the shade, but for two hours in the late afternoon the sun is shining right on the top of the plants.
So I went to Big Lots and found this beach umbrella for $9.99 and it works beautifully.
AFTER
The pole is long enough to extend higher as the plants grow. They do look better with the shade covering their blooms.
Thank you little angel for helping with a solution to my problem.
Here is a pin for you
Thanks for visiting and I hope you are having a great week.
Joyously,
Betty

Ready for Summer

Hello everyone,
Well another hot day today. I'm in the house and staying cool.
We are READY FOR SUMMER here @ My Cozy Corner. I finally have the patio ready for the 4th of July and other parties.
The swing is dressed and the fern grotto is lush and green...
As you can see we have a new french door in our master bedroom. I love the vent doors on the side. At night we open them to get a little fresh air in the house. After having the house closed up and running the air conditioner all day,  I love to have the cool evening breeze flow into our bedroom.
Last year I took a bed skirt and made a valance for the swing. This year I found a white twin size quilt and draped it over the seats. The chaise lounge is covered with an old chenille bedspread.
A mixture of pink roses fill my french bucket. I love pink in my patio.
Pink hydrangeas are my favorite table centerpiece.
Cool ice water is waiting in the cooler. I have some vintage punch glasses we can use. The metal tray is from Wal Mart. I need it under the cooler to catch the water. Perfect for storing the glasses too.
White roses and blooming artichokes are in my french bucket.
Aren't the artichoke blooms amazing?
The little tool box on the foot stool has flatware, napkins, salt and pepper and paper plates for easy access. I don't have to keep running in the house for something. I keep it covered with a little tea towel.
Now I'm ready to bring out some snacks and dessert.
A recap of the beautiful bouquets from my summer garden.
Despite the hot weather I can enjoy my garden all summer long.
Thank you for visiting today. I hope you have a great week.
Joyously,
Betty
