Valentine Cookies and a Story

Hello everyone,
This Sunday is Valentine's Day and
It's a very special day for me.
Sweetheart and I were engaged on Valentine's Day in
1960. To see my engagement ring Go Here. I scanned
the photo from our Wedding photo album. In those days
Wedding photos were taken in Black and White. Our
photos have turned a little yellow over the years, but our
love is just as fresh as it was 56 years ago.

To celebrate our special day, we have
dinner at home and when we were younger
we would put on our favorite dance music and
dance in our kitchen later in the evening.
A box of chocolates and flowers are my gifts
I usually don't give sweetheart a gift...
because he has ME.
~LOL~
During Christmas I was making Lemon Bars and I had a little
shortbread dough leftover... I put the dough in the freezer until
last week when I baked a few heart shaped cookies with a hole
in the center to put a straw through.

I made the frosting thick as syrup and poured it over the cookies.
Let the cookies sit on a rack for six hours or overnight.
Confectioners sugar and milk
with a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of
red food coloring.

Sweethearts (also known as conversation hearts)
are small heart-shaped sugar candies sold around
Valentine's Day. Each heart is printed with a message such
as "Be Mine", "Kiss Me", "Call Me", "Let's Get Busy",
and "Miss You". Sweethearts are made by the
New England Confectionery Company, or Necco
A similar type of candy is sold in the UK under the name
Love Hearts. Necco manufactures
nearly 2 billion Sweethearts per year.[1] source

Valentine Mantel

Hello everyone,
Red and White decor is so refreshing to see after my dreary and boring January mantel. I decorated the fireplace mantel with a little Red, White and Green. And
I decided to use plates this year on the mantel for monthly inspiration. Each month I would like to change the plates out to express the season. This month is a Valentine theme.
I love my square boxwood wreath decorated with a red ribbon and two red cyclamen plants as the centerpiece.
During a shopping trip to Macy's after Christmas I found these white felt hearts trimmed in Red for one dollar each. With some satin ribbon and little red clothes pins I have a bunting or banner for Valentine's Day. Simple and fun to make.
Just enough  decor for My Cozy Corner.
The Before Photo of the mantel is Here.  It was Christmas time and featured at Katherine's Corner. You can also see my Christmas Banner too.
I have several different salad plates I've collected to set my tea time tablescapes. And I think this is going to be fun to change the plates, candles, center decor every few months. I will need to change the colored ribbon on the wreath from time to  time. We will see if this works out for an easy mantel display during the year of 2015.
As soon as I spotted these cute heart ornaments my heart skipped a beat. I knew the minute I saw them exactly what I was going to do with them.
The heart plates are a set of four and I found them at Tuesday Morning when I worked there a few years ago. I love Tuesday Morning. They have the cutest stuff and at great prices too.

Brass and Gold goes so well with our new living room furniture.
I love a mosaic to recap my post. I hope you love them too.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much for visiting and Happy Valentine's Day.
Joyously,
Betty

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine card making is just great fun.  I made two cards like this one for my older granddaughters.  I also included money and a piece of gum in each card.  The gum is a tradition since they were small and they love it.
The four younger granddaughters received these cards.

On another note!!  Today my honey and I are celebrating the anniversary of our engagement of 50 years.  We were married on July 17, 1960. in Santa Clara, CA.  About ten years ago we started celebrating Valentines Day at home.  We have Lobster for dinner and dance in our kitchen.  Our favorite music is Steve Tyrell's A New Standard.  It is very romantic.
