Rose Tour

Hello everyone,

I took a break from weeding my garden to celebrate my birthday today.

Every year I attend the Rose Society's Annual Home and Rose Tour.
This year I had the pleasure to visit the home the day before the
event. The first sight I saw was this fabulous bike sitting on the
patio. What a delight it would be to have a bicycle with a basket full of flowers.

The patio surrounds the back of the house, and the oval pool

is set against a beautiful ivy covered wall. The hot tub is

enclosed and has a fountain flowing into the water. Blooming 

lavender borders the pathway to the hot tub.

I know this is a Rose Tour, but the home has so many features I don't want you to 

miss the fun around this home. Take a look at the grandkids playhouse.

Tree azalea trees line the front entrance.   

Red Roses line the fence to the garden.

One type of rose is planted in each section on the path to the raised garden area.

 The Beautiful garden decor is placed in different locations on the property.

Different berry bushes are leading to the potting shed.

The potting shed is equipped with heating and cooling. 

This potting shed is a gardener's dream.  

On the left side of the potting shed is raised planter boxes.

They are planted with tomatoes in the back along the wall.

Herbs, bell peppers, and artichokes 

As I left through the front gate the fence surrounding the house

was lined with the most beautiful and healthy "Mr. Lincoln" Roses.

Thanksgiving Tea Time

Hello everyone,

Next Thursday we will be reunited with our family

and I will especially grateful.

This Tea Time today is the November photo in

my 2017 calendar.  I have ordered some for 

Christmas gifts for my special friends and family.
I will give you a look when I have my Tea Time review
at the end of this year.

Royal Albert 'Old Country Roses' is a timeless china pattern.

I must admit I was blessed to find the dishes in this post.

I had one cup I found at the thrift store a few years ago.

But this summer while I was yard-sale shopping on a 

Saturday morning I found these dishes and the candle holder.

I bought all the dishes for $5.00. Yes! 

I did have the napkin rings I bought at my 

favorite thrift store.

The white teapot caught my eye at T.J.Maxx, and I 

knew it was going to be a delicious addition to my

Tea Time tablescape.

I am so in love with this dish pattern. 

The best-selling dinnerware pattern in the world, the Old Country Roses pattern is practically synonymous with the name Royal Albert and a long-standing testament to timeless style and elegant craftsmanship. 

Old Country Roses' signature motif of burgundy, pink and yellow roses, accented with lustrous gold banding. 

What is more appropriate to have on my tea table

but Country Roses freshly picked from

my garden.  A variety of colors and the

scent of the roses in the house is incredible.

Banana Bread and Tea

Hello everyone,

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend. I had a delightful one.
I'm going to take a friend some banana bread, but before
I give it away I wanted to taste it. I made three
small loafs of banana bread. I eat one, took a
photograph of one and wrapped one for delivery.
Awile back  at the thrift store I found a
cookbook by GladysTaber.  Called the Stillmeadow Cook Book.
Susan Branch is a fan of Gladys Taber and I can
understand why. Reading the recipes turns back the
clock to my early days of cooking as a young bride
and new mother. The cookbook was first published
in 1965. I was married on July 17, 1960, at the age
of 19. Raising three children in the 60s cooking
was a real job. Without fast food restaurants
 to catch a quick meal and a break from cooking that
I would have enjoyed. Cooking was a chore. Three meals a day,
packing school lunches and sweetheart's lunch for work
I put some long hours in the kitchen every day.
So here is a nice and simple delicious Banana Bread recipe.
 I hope you enjoy.

Old Hundred Banana Bread

by Gladys Taber's Stillmeadow Cook Book 

Ingredients

• 3 bananas
• 1/4 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 3/4 flour
• 1 tsp soda
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
• 3 eggs

Instructions

Blend mashed bananas, sugar and eggs, and shortening. Add nuts. Sift dry ingredients and add to dry ingredients and add to mixture. Mix swiftly,  pour in pan. Bake 30 mins in slow oven (350°). 

The bananas should not be green, just yellow, flecked with brown at the tip.

I couldn't help stopping for afternoon tea to taste the Banana Bread with 
a little bit of cream cheese slathered on a slice of bread. 

Lomonosov Blue and White Cobalt tea set

I am a little late for the fourth of July with my red, white and blue,
but my roses are blooming again and 'Ingrid Bergman' was begging to
be picked. She is a beautiful and fragrant rose. I wrapped the
bread in a box set I found at Wal-Mart in the baking section. I have
two boxes left. The twine is from Wal-Mart too.

A little bird's egg has fallen from the bird's nest that
is tucked in the English Ivy covering my pergola post.
I couldn't see any other activity in the nest.
I hope the mother bird saved the egg.
I am so grateful to have a garden
