Friendship Tea Time

Hello everyone,
Every teacup and saucer have a story.
This teacup was given to me by a special friend.
When her father passed away, she inherited four
vintage teacups that belonged to her late mother.
I am so honored to be the new owner
of this beautiful cup and saucer, and the
other three tea cups I will show you in
upcoming Tea Time posts.
They are fabulous.
This teacup was made in Japan. I love
lusterware porcelain china, and I have
several lusterware teacups and saucers.
The romantic look of this beautiful teacup with a rose
inside the cup and a long strand of pearls pouring over
the side onto the saucer.  The vintage crochet doily
was a gift.  We are still in the dark part of Winter,
and I love the frosted pine cones and my
little fir tree wrapped in burlap.
I found a little thought that matters.
Resolve to do a little reading every day,
if it is but a single sentence.  If you
gain fifteen minutes a day, it will make
itself felt at the end of the year.

Savory Crock Pot Beef Barley Soup

Hello everyone,
Does this table setting look familiar?
Yes, it is. I posted a Winter Soup tablescape
a couple of days ago. Go Here,

 And today I'm
posting my recipe for Savory Crock Pot Beef Barley Soup.
The ingredients on the breadboard are so colorful and healthy.
I serve this hearty soup with French bread covered with
Garlic and Parmesan cheese.
The barley is rinsed, and the parsley is
freshly picked from the herb garden.
Fresh green onions and spices are ready to add to
the crock pot.
This recipe yields 8 to10 servings.
Today I took my daughter and family
some soup and bread so she could sit and watch football
playoffs without having to get up and cook dinner.
I also froze a quart of soup for our dinner on another rainy Winter Eve.

Savory Crock Pot Beef Barley Soup
Easy recipe to cook in a Crock Pot.

  • 6 cups water
  • 4 stalks chopped celery
  • 6 chopped carrots
  • 6 chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup barley
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Winter Soup Tablescape

Hello everyone,
It's raining again this week, and the forecast is for rain
until late next week. During the rainy days
I love having a crock pot of Winter soup cooking on low
all day long. I can serve soup for lunch or dinner.
The Green Cabbage Leaf bowls are perfect for soup.
The white square plate can hold a delicious slice of
French bread covered with garlic and Parmesan cheese.
The little green Vintage glasses hold a beverage and one is used
as a vase for fresh oregano, I picked from my herb garden.
This spot is where we love to eat our lunch or snacks.
The island divides the kitchen from the dining room.
Being retired for ten years, I  sometimes wonder
how other retirees plan menus. Do you eat breakfast,
lunch, and dinner? Do you have dessert in the evening?
Every day this island is a busy place.
The Keurig coffee maker is on
the right side of the table setting. I prepare
afternoon snacks, and I serve buffet dinners
from the island at family celebrations.
You can see the back counter is my baking center.
For handy reference, my collection
of celebrity cookbooks stored next to the counter.
I love my kitchen and on rainy days
I am busy preparing goodies to share with you
and my family.

Bistro napkins completely cover the lap.
Black handled flatware, and black napkin rings
add a casual look to my farmhouse kitchen tablescape.
Save a mosaic.
Thank you for visiting today.
I would love to hear how you
spend your retirement days.
Joyously,
Betty

Yay! We had Snow.

Hello everyone,
This is the first snow since December 2013. It started
around seven in the morning and started raining at nine.
I walked outside in my PJ's and snapped these photos.
The angels are covered with the fluffy snow and
I use the picnic table to gauge the amount of
snow falling in two hours.
I haven't cleaned the garden yet. Hopefully,
I can get outside sometime in the next couple of weeks and
clean up the grape vines and plant some bulbs.
The garden decor is so beautiful covered with snow.
The blue bench is covered with snow,
but a hint of blue paint is still showing through the snow.

Later this week I'm going to be making some
Beef Barley Soup to enjoy this weekend.
The drought is over in North California
for this year. It has been raining
for over four months steadily.
Thank you for visiting
Joyously,
Betty

Easy Crock Pot Turkey Chili

Hello everyone,
Welcome to My Cozy Corner. This is my first post for
the new year. Hubby and I had a quiet New Year's
day. I made Turkey Chili instead of Black Eyed Peas.
Hopefully, the beans will bring us much good
luck in the months to come.
This Turkey Chili is so easy and delicious.
I changed the recipe a little bit because we had some
leftover turkey from Christmas dinner.  And I wanted to
use it up.
I have two jars of salsa in my photo.  I could have added
more beans and used some of the extra sauce for liquid.
Or I could use Chicken broth.

I added one jar of salsa verde to the beans in my crock pot.
My granddaughters know I love tea towels, so for Christmas
they bought me this cute tea towel.
"Whisk me away" with a whisk on the bottom
of the tea towel. I love it.
Add Salt and Pepper, chopped onion and garlic powder.
The tea towel under the partridge in a pear tree is another
tea towel they gave me.
One of my granddaughters is a Vegan, so I spooned out
a bowl for her before I added the chopped turkey.
I added the turkey leftover from Christmas dinner.
Turkey hamburger is delicious also.
Put into the Crock Pot and turn on high.
Stir occasionally until heated completely.
This recipe is so easy and so delicious on a cold
wintery night. Serve with warm french bread and
a fresh tossed green salad and dinner is done.

Crock Pot Turkey Chili

  • 4 cans cannellini beans or add more cans of beans for a larger quantity.
  • 1 jar green salsa
  • 1 pound package ground turkey or chopped fresh turkey.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup, chopped onion
Instructions
Brown turkey in frying pan adding salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion.
Place all ingredients in crock pot and cook on high.
When ready to serve turn on warm.
