Friendly Village

Hello everyone,
Let's get this party started. I've been enjoying this week.
Resting and watching the Rose Bowl Parade and also plenty
of college playoff games. I'm so excited about the new
Downton Abby season five premiering on Sunday night.
It has been a long wait. I've set a table for a dinner  by the fire while
Sweetheart and I enjoy the pleasures of English life at Downton Abby.
The table is set with Vintage Johnson Brothers Friendly Village.
I found two place settings at the Goodwill.
I inherited the silverware place settings from my great grandmother.
'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire' Jack Frost nipping at your nose.

Vintage brown teapot to enjoy my English tea.
' The Ice House' small cereal bowl or dessert bowl.
The vintage stemmed glassware were my mother's favorite.
Silver chargers remind me of a silvery ice skating pond.
'The Covered Bridge' square salad plate is delightful.
Silver votive candle holders from the Dollar Tree© and the Yule Tide
Camellias are blooming profusely on the front hedge.

'The School House' dinner plate.
I love the details on these old dishes.
Looking forward to a delightful evening.

2015 is a new beginning. I'm starting my sixth year of blogging.
What a great hobby to practice my writing skills
and my love for photography.
Joyously,
Betty

  2. Happy Bloggaversay! I had my 3rd yesterday on the first and just let it go, haha. I was too exhausted watching The Buckeyes beat Crimson Tide - what a game, I think it's the most exciting best game I have ever watched. My son in law works at OSU and he and my daughter went to 'Nawlins to see the game in person. : - ) Glad they came home happy!

Love your tablescape, it's perfect for this time of your, cozy but lovely. The stemware is GORGEOUS, I can easily see why they were your mother's favorite!

    Happy New Year! : = )

  3. Betty, I love Downton Abbey, too. Love your new Friendly Village place settings. The nostalgia scenes are heart warming. I do remember several wooden covered bridges from my childhood. I am telling my age but I remember an ice house too. Not nestled in the snow because I am in the deep south but a building that sold ice blocks. At the time my grandmother still had a refrigerator that you put ice in the ice box.
Happy Blog anniversary. I started blogging the same year you did. You do well with your photography.

  4. Happy Blog Anniversary! I am celebrating one, too! :-)

I love your tablescape, and I think it is perfect for sitting by the fire and watching Downton! I can hardly wait for Sunday night. We had a Downton Dinner last year at a friend's, and it was really fun. Tomorrow, it is just going to be me, but I'm looking forward to it.

    Happy Pink Saturday to you...

  6. Your table setting is beautiful. One of my friends has Friendly Village. One of the things I miss from California is my Yuletide camellias. They don't grow here in Colorado.

  18. Hi Betty,
I was thrilled to find this post! I have a vintage brown teapot just like yours that was given to me by my beloved mom-in-law who is no longer with us. I treasure it. And, your schoolhouse plate, I found one like it in an antiques shop just before Christmas and am delighted with it. I hung it inside a Christmas wreath and I love how it looks. I am feeling inspired to polish my mom's silver and use it for a special dinner. Beautiful post.
    Happy New Year!

  20. What an enchanting little tea table. Having your own Camellias must be wonderful. Especially since many of us are under blizzard warnings. It is definitely a day to stay by the fireside with tea.
