Enjoy Some Polynesian Fun!

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii.
The girls and I enjoyed a wonderful day and evening visiting the beautifully appointed Cultural Center.
My favorite part of visiting the center is the parade of islands.  The center has an exciting performance with the canoe pageant and my favorite island is Tahiti.  WOW!!!

The girls.  Beth is 10 years old is standing in the middle.  Every family has a drama queen!
We had a great time eating, laughing and sharing a wonderful experience.

The spectacular 42-acre Polynesian Cultural Center brings to life the traditions, history and hospitality of the islands of the South Pacific.

Each island demonstrates the way of life in the early days  on the islands.
This is on the island of Samoa, where the coconut is used for clothing, food, fire and music.

The Samoan is showing us how to open a coconut in ONE EASY STEP.

The canoe pageant starts with the island of Tahiti and the island of Hawaii is next.
The costumes are the authentic dress of the early settlers of the Hawaiian islands.

The colors are so bright and amazing dances are performed by the entertainers.
We saw all the islands perform again in the evening show call  HA: Breath of Life.
Fabulous.  A must see.

Last canoe is the ~KING~ and court.

Before the Canoe Pageant starts a canoe comes along the edge of the bank and sells this wonderful
Sherbet Delight dessert.  Of course we had to have one.  So Hawaiian!

While at the Luau Dinner a show is presented.  Explaining all the different kinds of dress of the King's court.

*Memorial Day 2012*

Hello Everyone,
During my vacation to Oahu, Hawaii this month I had the privilege to share the experience of the USS Arizona Memorial with my daughter and granddaughters. The USS Arizona is built over the wreck of the battleship USS Arizona and was dedicated on Memorial Day 1962.  It serves as a lasting tribute to the 1,177 men who lost their lives on the "Day of Infamy".
Memorial Day
May 28, 2012
marks the 70TH Anniversary of the Memorial.

The USS Arizona tells the story of how World War II started.

The USS Missouri tells the story of  how World War II ended.
Next to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitors Center, is moored the battleship known as
"Mighty Mo"
Particularly stirring is a walk on the Surrender Deck, where on September 2, 1945, Japan signed the "Instrument of Surrender" ending World War II.

Tablescape #46 - Hummingbirds Love Pink Flowers

Hello Everyone,
The Hummingbirds are busy and it's time to celebrate ...
Pink Saturday's Fourth Birthday!!!

I get so excited when I have a reason to find some fun plates and to design a tablescape.
When I saw these darling plates at Tuesday Morning I had to buy them.
We have two hummingbird feeders outside our window and it is such a joy to watch the birds fly up  to the feeder and drink the sugar water. We have lots of hummingbirds in our garden too.

I do question the placement of the hummingbirds. One upside down is interesting.

I have been wanting some grape vine wreaths to use as tablescapes, so I decided to make my own from my grape vine in the garden.  Ha - Ha. I started the project and after about an hour with no success I decided my time was more valuable and I found these beauties at the Dollar Tree for a buck a piece and

*Just a Little Garden Tour*

Hello Everyone.
While I was on vacation the roses bloomed and now they are fading away.
I wanted to give you a small tour of the garden before
I start to move things and plant more annuals for the summer.
The angel is new.  I plan to move her to the big garden.
'Climbing New Dawn' is blooming beautifully. The pink flowers are falling all over the ground and it's so fragrant.

A view from the patio, looking at the flower garden.
I just finished cleaning the patio and now it's time to weed the flower garden.
The vegetable garden is to the right and sweetheart just finished planting small plants, so there isn't much to see yet.  I will surely show you the results in about 30 days.

This is 'New Dawn' looking into the backyard.  You can see the pergola that was built last winter.  Sweetheart is installing water and electric next to the left hand post.
I will have a drip system on the plants surrounding the entire pergola. I'm so excited to get started planting.

I think it looks just like a Peony.

Peony
I transplanted these peonies from my mother's yard. To see my mom's yard Go HERE

This is a view from the garden. I'm standing behind my Iceberg Rose.  We have 8/10 of an acre. The weather is very warm in the summer and folks ask us why we don't have a pool.  Well for years we had a boat and would go out to the lake in the evening after work and spend all weekend boating. There are two beautiful lakes about 20 minutes from our house and I loved boating.  Such Freedom.  No telephone, laundry and a picnic is easy to carry.  Just a swimsuit and a towel.  The kids would water ski for hours, then we would stop for  lunch on the boat and float on rafts and swim awhile...
No Pool at this house!

'St Patrick' is one of my favorite beautiful roses and my snow peas are to the right.  YUM!
'Tiffany' rose in front of my 'Red Flame' grape vine.  YUM!
I hope to plant Blue Morning Glory on the wire fence next week.

Yes, we have artichokes... I have a 'Therese Bugnet' rose planted behind the artichokes.  Hopefully next year it will taller and more beautiful.

'Ingrid Bergman' is blooming up a storm and my angel is watching the weeds grow.

I hope you have enjoyed your garden tour.  I have lots of plans for the garden this year and I will be sharing more with you real soon.

~Evening in Pink~

Welcome everyone to My Cozy Corner.
I have been busy in the patio and garden since returning from my vacation in Hawaii. The weather has been in the mid-90's and low 80's and that makes gardening a joy.
I wanted to share with you my Mother's Day tea cup and some beautiful pink roses from the garden.
I have the patio all clean for our summer fun.  The photos were taken around seven in the evening, and I have a few tea lights lit for our enjoyment.
Come, sit on the swing and relax.

Light among the ferns.

Light to see the Mother's Day cup - Sweetheart found this cup at a yard sale.  Some of the best deals and thoughtfulness is when I receive a tea cup.

'Tiffany' Very fragrant, deep pink blooms shaded yellow. Long strong stems, Dark foliage.

The roses had their first bloom while I was gone.  I'm enjoying them while I'm  outside now, but I will be dead-heading in the next week or so...

The sweet roses in the white tea pot are 'Simplicity' Outstanding vigor, hardiness and easy care.

I hope you have enjoyed an evening on the patio with the candlelight and roses.
Please come back soon.
