Carolina Inn Tea Time

Hello everyone,

"Four Ladies Go Traveling" started our vacation having 

tea at Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

When planning our trip, I made reservations at 4:00 o'clock

for afternoon tea.  We checked into our room and when it was time for
 afternoon tea we entered this beautiful sunny room

Here is our table waiting for us to be seated.

I love chocolate covered strawberries.

Sweet desserts.

Delicious tea sandwiches.

This is my place setting.

I am ready to enjoy tea time.

In the lobby and in the hallways are beautifully decorated 

china hutches and cabinets displaying different China

sets.  

Before it was time for tea, I took a walk about the property of the

Carolina Inn.  Outside of the side area, a large tea party was set up for

an afternoon tea.

They serve world-renowned chocolate chip toffee cookies upon check-in.

The Carolina Inn is a hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Orange County, North Carolina, which opened in 1924. The Carolina Inn is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. (sourse)

We stayed one night in a luxurious room with two queen beds.

Here we are saying goodbye to Chapel Hill, and starting our road trip

to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

Biltmore Estate Tea Time

Hello everyone,

Yes, Peony season is over in many parts of our country.

But I captured this photo in May when I came home from 

my vacation with Four Ladies Go Traveling. 

While visiting the Biltmore Estate, I bought a teacup  and

saucer in one of the many gifts shops on the property.

I took my tea party outside to enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

The little bistro table under the pomegranate tree is a perfect place to have

my cup of tea and the iron garden bench in the background is

surrounded by hostas and perennial coral bells.  

I was so grateful I came home to at least a bouquet or two of peonies

The rose peony bushes were transplanted from my mother's 

garden when she passed away in November 2012. Every year

they are more beautiful than the year before.

The Vanderbilt Service is Adapted from a large Sèvres tea service

circa 1888.  Currently on display in the Oak Sitting Room in

Biltmore House.

The vintage teaspoon holds loose tea. This teaspoon was my

favorite spoon to use when I was a young girl enjoying

 afternoon tea with my mother and sister.

Charleston Treasures

Hi everyone,

While visiting Charleston, South Carolina on my recent trip. Everywhere
I looked I saw amazing window boxes, gates, beautiful historic homes
and many other treasures.

This beautiful city is filled with fabulous sights to see.
I only visited Charleston for a few days,

but my senses were filled with the culture and history. 

The casual living is easy to embrace, and I loved it.

I was fascinated with the beauty of the trees with moss growing in them.

Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is not a moss at all. It is a bromeliad, which means it is in the same taxonomic family as pineapples and succulent house plants.

After settling in our hotel room "Four Ladies Go Traveling" 

went for an evening stroll before dinner. We walked up to 

Church Street to see  St. Philip's Church and the beautiful gates of the cemetery.  

St. Philip's Graveyard

Buried here are revolutionaries, politicians, confederates, and artists. Among then are Col. William Rhett, known as the "Scourge of the Pirates," charged with bringing the murderous Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet to justice. Gen. Moultrie, the great defender of Charleston against the British, is here. Edward Rutledge, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Pinckney, a signer of the Constitution, and John C. Calhoun, a US senator and vice president of the US also are interred here.

Established in 1681, St. Philip's is the oldest religious congregation in South Carolina. The first St. Philip's Church, a wooden building, was built between 1680 and 1681 at the corner of Broad and Meeting streets on the present day site of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

I live in hot, dry California and have never lived in any Southern states.

It is so wonderful to see plants grow so lush and green.

The warm rain and humid air give the plants a permanent conservatory.

 

I saw historic homes with flower boxes and unique ironwork fences.

Each gate of iron has a different design. 

How did I get in this picture?

I bought some cotton at the famous City Market.

I had seen Cotton fields in Bakersfield, Ca

when I was a little girl. My great-uncle owned

a cotton field in the San Joaquin Valley, and

when I was a girl, I walked in the cotton field

touching the cotton balls. What a thrill.

I have never forgotten that day.

I now at age 76 I have my own cotton bouquet.

This sweet lady at the City Market Place sells handmade

Cotton Wreaths. I wanted to buy a wreath, but I didn't

want to bring it home on the plane with me.

I think a Cotton Wreath is gorgeous on the front door of any home.  Especially 

brick homes in the South with ironwork fences.

Colorful houses are sprinkled around the historic district.

We took a carriage ride and enjoyed seeing many beautiful and unique homes

on tour.

Oh, and the house too. Lol.

I had a grand time in Charleston, South Carolina.

I made a mosaic to pin on my Pinterest board.

I will be checking South Carolina off of my 

bucket-list map soon.

Pink Peony Tea Time

Hi everyone,

Peony season is over now. The season lasts three weeks in May. While I

was on vacation, my peonies bloomed profusely. On May 15th I found this

bouquet in my garden. I wanted to have a photo of the pink peonies for my

2018 calendar and one of these pictures I will have on the calendar.

I found ants all over the flowers and needed to retouch the ant problem.

The gloves are from a garage sale. I don't have small hands, and this pair would just not fit.

The little pearls on the wrist are so precious.

Do you love Tea? I do. When I found this tea tin. I knew it would be

perfect for my Pink Peony Tea Time post.

I read a post awhile back, that peony blooms look like ballerina dresses

I think the description is accurate. Thank you Rattlebridge Farm.

Three of my favorite tea cups. The cross-stitch cup is my VERY favorite.

The vintage tea tin is a little treasure I will cherish for a long time.

I think I might use it again when the Black-eyed Susan's bloom.

I left the ants in this photo because I just saw them while typing this line.

I needed to know why ants like peonies the answer is here. 

This is a natural and temporary activity. It is believed that peonies produce small amounts of nectar and other ant attractants to encourage ants to help in opening the dense double flower buds found in many peonies. The ants may be found covering certain varieties and avoiding others, this is totally normal.

Today it's cool, and I am working on my posts about my trip

to the Biltmore Estate, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina.

I ordered a bucket-list map, and it is being framed this week.

I love to make mosaics for my Pinterest board.
