Silver and Pink

This last weekend while I was visiting my mother, she gave me some heirloom silverware that has been in my family for over a hundred years.  This week I have been cleaning and touching and doing research on the silver pieces that I have admired since I was 10 years old. When I was young I would look at the spoons on the spoon rack and sometimes I would be able to touch them.  Now I am blessed that I can study each piece under a magnifying glass for as long as my heart desires.   

  

The tea cup is Elizabethan Fine Bone China from England.  The roses are 'Tiffany' a Hybrid Tea Rose from my garden. A Sterling Silver tea caddy spoon is in the loose tea.  The teaspoon  is Silver-plated by Hamilton Manufacturing Co. and the  Sterling Silver loose tea leaf infuser is one of  My Favorite Things.

The top slips of the hinge for easy washing.

I love the twisted handle.

Harris-Lass Part II

I'm joining Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

And, I'm joining Coloradolady for Vintage Thingie Thursday.

I will start Part II of the tour with a tablescape in the kitchen.

The kitchen has been furnished in the period of the 1930's.

Check out the the vintage tablecloth and toaster.

Vintage refrigerator has a foot peddle on the bottom to open the door if you have a handful of groceries.

Living Room

Captain Lass's bedroom.  The captain raised German canaries.  Hence the bird cage.

It is wonderful to see the vintage quilts in the cupboard.

Closets full of vintage clothing were found when the estate was sold.

The vintage dress is charming and the cross-stitch picture with the words 'God Bless our Mother' is absolutely wonderful.

The last stop on the tour is the vintage parlor with a tea tablescape waiting for guests to enjoy the hospitality of the Harris-Lass House Historic Museum.

Harris-Lass House Part I

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this last weekend was my husband's 50th high school class reunion.  We were married one month after he graduated from high school in Santa Clara, California.  On Sunday the reunion committee held a Bar-Be-Que at the Harris-Lass Historic Museum.  As everyone knows the town of Santa Clara is in the heart of Silicon Valley.  It was such a joy to step back in time and visit the last farm site in the city of Santa Clara.

The house is named for the two families who owned and lived on the property for 125 years.  The museum consists of the house, a classic California barn, summer kitchen, tank house and landscaped gardens.

The house was built in 1865 in the Italianate style-balanced and symmetrical.  In the 1890's it was extensively enlarged and remodeled, changing the symmetry of the original design.  It is fully furnished, most of the furniture and contents having belonged to the Lass family

The City of Santa Clara bought the property in 1987 and after extensive restoration, it opened to the public in 1991.  Although owned by the City, the site is operated by the Historic Preservation Society of Santa Clara, a non-profit public benefit corporation, and staffed entirely by volunteers.

The Tank House was moved from another location and is now the gift shop for the museum.

Farm Equipment is displayed in the front of the house and gardens with roses, perennials and trees create a beautifully landscaped property.

The property  also has a beautiful setting for weddings.    

I had such a great time photographing all the beautiful buildings and gardens.

Sugar and Cream

Hello everyone.  Today, I played with my new Sugar Bowl and Creamer set.

For my birthday in June.  My dear sweet daughter and granddaughters gave me a darling tea pot.  I showed the tea pot in my post called "Just one lavender plant"  CLICK HERE.  I was shopping in a gift shop yesterday and found a sugar bowl and creamer set that matched my tea pot.  Just to make sure they were the same pattern I came home and took a photo of my tea pot. Yes, it was the same pattern.  Yes, I had to buy them.   We can never have to many tea accoutrements. lol.

 

QUESTION?  Does anyone know what's the name of this plant?  I dug some of it up from a neighbor's yard two years ago.  It grows on the north side of my house and blooms all summer long with wonderful wispy stems and delicate blossoms.
