Happy 4th of July

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great weekend. I just want to wish everyone a
Happy 4th of July Holiday.
I'm sure there are plenty of flags flying.

I wanted to share the Thrifty Independence Day decorations with you.
One flag from the Dollar Tree
One flag wreath from a yard sale (cheap)
One thrifty ornament
Some ribbon from my craft room
Three buntings on sale after July 2011 (cheap)

It works for me...

I have always wanted to hang some buntings during July.
Well - guess what?
I say - If I live long enough I might get everything I wish for.

Hanauma Bay - Oahu, Hawaii

Hello everyone, and welcome to Hanauma Bay in Hawaii.
Hanauma Bay is a marine embayment formed within a volcanic cone
and is  located along the southeast coast of the Island of Oahu in the
Hawaiian Islands.

Hanauma Bay  is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Island.
While vacationing on the Island of Oahu in May 2012, the girls and I
took a day trip to visit the Nature Preserve and Marine Life Conservation District.
To See the rest of the our wonderful  vacation GO HERE

Hana means bay in the Hawaiian language.
Visitors are required by law to refrain from mistreating marine animals or from touching,
walking, or otherwise having contact with coral heads which appear much like large rocks on the ocean floor.   About 400 species of fish are known to inhabit the bay.
Hanauma Bay is known for its abundance of Green sea Turtles and is a nursery ground for the immature turtles.

Can you name Hawaii's state fish?
Here Goes...HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A
or
REEF TRIGGERFISH
Remember High School Musical 2 song!!!
Yes! Thats it...
Beautiful view from the top of the hill, and a  long steep walk down~

The Marine Education Center has an entrance to the bay, where new visitors must watch a short film
and receive instruction about the conservaton of the Bay's resources.
After the long walk down, and playing in the sun and sand all day there still  is a long steep walk up the hill~
Huffing and Puffing all the way. LOL

The view is worth the walk. And the water is so clear you can see the coral formations on the ocean floor.

The snorkeling is amazing for the young and old at heart.
A wonderful grass area, white sandy beach, clean changing rooms and restroom facilities.

The girls are having a great time in their floaties...

Snorkeling and enjoying the colorful fish they see.

Another wonderful day in the sun

Lots of heads  "bobbing up and down"

I'm so happy you joined me on my adventure to a beautiful beach in Hawaii.
I will be joining some parties and I hope you visit them too.

Tablescape #48 - 4TH of July Country Style

Hello everyone.  This week is going to be a busy one for me.
I have some fun 4TH of July posts and a little visit to Oahu.
I love to entertain on our patio.  Our family loves the comfortable swing and, the candles glowing in the evening while we visit about the GOOD OLD DAYS!
We live in rural America and
I want to
share with you a country 4TH of July
tablescape.

The inspiration for this tablescape came from the four dessert plates
I bought at Tuesday Morning a few months ago. Open-air dining is a rite of the season, combining the casualness of a picnic with the convenience of a close-at-hand kitchen.

The old red, white, and blue can take many forms on a tabletop steeped in nostalgia.
The Shasta Daisy is the perfect flower for Summer.  I uses this red enamel coffee pot in our RV
and when we sold it, I started using it as a vase.

The patriotic theme is so fitting with these four plates.
As Americans we love our freedom.

Peace in the world is the goal desired.

The definition of Glory~is a state of great splendor, magnificence or prosperity.

We are so proud of our liberty we have in America

"The Founding Fathers made an appropriate choice when they selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation.  The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird aptly symbolizes the strength and freedom of America."

Final Touches to Guest Bathroom

Happy Monday!
Starting another wonderful week with some fun posts.  I have a list of posts...I can't believe I have so many things to show you.
But First! My Begonias didn't grow in my Guest Bathroom.  I was so disappointed.
To see the Begonias Post Go HERE

Here's how it looks today.
New valance, new plant, candles and my handmade soap in some apothecary jars.

The new valance is made from a twin size bed dust ruffle I found at TM  for a nifty price.  My favorite store.
I used the same 2 1/2" hardware that had been used to hang the peach valance for 21 years.
I think it was time for a change.  It was so easy to sew with all the hemming done.
I just turned the top over and made the header.

The fabric is eyelet and most of the labor was done by a professional source.  I have priced
ready made valances and custom made valances and fabric to make the valance.  I made this one in less than a day.  With ripping, sewing, and hanging.   Very Thrifty!! Yes?

I have added a new look with my new Orchid (Phalaenopsis) plant.  When  my last endeavor to grow Begonias in the bathroom failed. I thought a softer, more neutral colored plant would look attractive. And with my neutral colored valance the orchid is perfect.
I chose a moth orchid because its colorful, long-lasting, and simple to grow.
The reflection in the mirror looks like I have two orchids.

A few changes on the etagere .
Some sea shells, candle, handmade soap, and handmade bath salts too.

I love my angels!

Handmade soap with a french Fleur-de-lis.

Handmade Bath Salts

Vintage looking towels to finish off the softer look.

I love the new look of my Guest Bathroom.

~Fun in the Sun~

Hello,  everyone,
While on vacation this past May,  Go Here. My daughter and I rented a car and took a drive to wonderful beach located on Oahu's windward coast. You can see why they call it the Windward Coast.
Kailua Beach is about 30 minutes from Honolulu and Waikiki where we were staying.
Windsurfing is very popular in Oahu, and Kailua Beach is known for its steady trade wind breezes, and offers the perfect conditions  for Windsurfing and Kitesurfing.

Two girls, two floaties and the most beautiful white sandy beach!
LIFE IS GOOD!

Windsurfing combines elements of both surfing and sailing.
The Kailua Beach is surrounded by a protective bay
and the consistent winds provides the perfect location for Windsurfing.

Always a sand castle in the making.

Kailua is a must visit for Kitesurfing/Kiteboarding.
The beach has the best all around conditions for this sport  any where in Hawaii.

There is a beautiful grass area to stage the kites and a sandy beach for the launch.

It's late afternoon and I watched the kitesurfers set up for their launch.
More kitesurfers kept coming to the beach...
I think they play after work.  I would!

Beautiful day!

Reminds me of water skiing without a boat.

The girls were very impressed too!

~FUN IN THE SUN~
We had a wonderful day playing in the sun
watching a beautiful sport and
sharing some fabulous quality time together.
