It's the Little Things that Matter #11

Hello everyone,
I have been drying my hydrangea blooms. HERE
It all started the other day when I was cutting all
the blooms off my prize hydrangea bushes in the garden.

This summer has flown by and now it's time to put the umbrella away

for another year. During the summer the sun moves, and the hydrangeas are completely out of the blistering sun for another year.

I found a couple of quotes to share with you.

Tea for Me

Hello everyone,

I've been away this week on a little trip to 

South Lake Tahoe. It has been hot here at home so we decided 

to celebrate our 56th Wedding Anniversary early.

We will be married 56 years on July 17, 2016.

The weather at 6000 feet was 84 degrees compared to
our 106 degrees here at home.

I came home and unpacked and was ready for a cup

of tea. Just for me.

My hydrangeas are fading, but still, doing well under

the umbrella. 

The tea cups and saucers are Delft

Spode dinner plate, unmarked dessert plate, and two delft tea cups and saucers.

My great-grandmother's sterling silverware.

Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

Hello everyone, 

I promised Apple Crisp in my Apple dishes and here it is...A few days ago I posted

Yum!! I warmed the Apple Crisp in the microwave and put some whipped cream on top. So good♥

My 'First Love' silverware with the harp shaped fork tines.

The hydrangeas are so colorful...

I found this tea towel at the thrift store. Apple Crisp is kind of  like Apple Pie, but without the crust.

The dishes are a clear glass button salad plate, yellow salad plate from the Dollar Tree and a glass apple dessert dish from Tuesday Morning.

Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

or Apple Crumble

Place in greased 8" square pan...

4 cups sliced, pared, cored baking apples (about 4 med.)

Blend until crumbly; then spread over apples...

2/3 cup to 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)

1/2 cup sifted flour

12 cup rolled oats

34 tsp. cinnamon

3/4 tsp. nutmeg

1/3 cup soft butter

Bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with whipped cream.

TEMPERATURE: 375 degrees (quick mod. oven).

TIME: Bake 30 35 min.

AMOUNT: 6 to 8 servings.

(I use more butter in this recipe)

Late Summer Color

Hello everyone,

Happy August to you all. Wow! This summer is flying by...

Remember in early June I posted about my Hydrangeas beautiful color and our extreme hot sun causing them stress. I covered them with an umbrella to protect them. Well the umbrella idea worked. They have grown and now they are turning green. To see the first post GO HERE

Beautiful pink with a purple cast of color. 

The color has changed to a beautiful green. I think the bright colored umbrella has faded with the hot sun the past two months. 

Causes of Green Hydrangea Blooms

There is a cause of green hydrangea blooms. It’s Mother Nature herself with a little help from the French gardeners who hybridized the original hydrangeas from China. You see, those colorful flowers aren’t petals at all. They’re sepals, the part of the flower that protects the flower bud. Why do hydrangeas bloom green? Because that’s the natural color of the sepals. As the sepals age, the pink, blue or white pigments overpower the green so colored hydrangea blossoms often fade to green over time.

The blooms are drying on the bush. And I will be cutting the blooms and putting them in a basket in my guest room.
