April Garden Journal

Hello everyone, 
Wow!!! It"s been awhile since I've posted on my blog.
The last time I posted was about two weeks ago.
I've been busy setting up for my two-day garage sale. 
It takes me a week to get ready for the sale.
I have just finished disposing of my mother's 
treasures.  She passed away in November 2012, and it
 took me four and a half years to process my grief 
I had dishes, nick knacks, linens and household items.
The weather has been rainy, and I need to get outside and
weed two more flower beds. I did walk outside yesterday
and took a few photos of my garden in April.

This week I am busy playing with my husband at Car Show and Shines.
We have a 1937 modified Chevrolet, which we enter in a cruise ride
this Friday night. The good old days are here again.
We love to participate in vintage car shows.
"Indian Chief" Heirloom Iris
 We moved into this house in 1969, and I met a fellow growing
patent Iris, I gathered up a cardboard box of bulbs to
plant in the same place they grow today.

With velvety, wine-red falls and glowing standards of raspberry to bronze, this tall, striking, Jazz Age iris is one of the most colorful we grow. It’s exceptionally vigorous, too, thriving on neglect in old gardens everywhere and blooming even in part shade. By the good Dr. Wylie Ayres 
This is my new favorite plant. I have tried to grow Clematis forever.
I bought a plant last summer and was so surprised when I saw
the first bloom this spring. Every day another bloom opens up.

Rounded, deeply cupped, full flowers of creamy white and suffused with pink most intensely at the edge of the rose.
Time for tea in the Rose Garden. (When it stops raining) with my angel.

It's the Little Things that Matter in March

Hello everyone,
Oh, Happy Day... I have had a wonderful week. 
First, we celebrated my husband's 75th birthday last Saturday.
Our family gathered together for a reunion.
Our children and granddaughters all live in different cities,
and it's so much fun to get together every six months or so 
and share our lives and our love for each other.  
Spring is in full swing here in Northern California.
Friday (St. Patrick's Day) I traveled to 
San Francisco to visit the Flower Mart and 
The De Young Museum for the annual Bouquets to Art 2017.
What a beautiful day we enjoyed in the fabulous city of 
San Francisco. I will share pictures later this week.
Speaking of our family reunion, I found a perfect written piece,
about how I feel regarding my family.

Bunting in the Pergola


Hello everyone,
There is going to be a celebration 
@ My Cozy Corner.
 Let's Party.
Is it BUNTING or BANNERS?
I ordered this beautiful bunting from
Esty to hang in the Pergola. 
The bunting reminds me of Downton Abbey's 
wedding for Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes.
We are not having a wedding, but
 we are going to have a birthday.
My Birthday~Big 75~
Hubby and I are hanging more bunting 
in the patio this weekend. Our family 
will be arriving from near and far to
help me celebrate three quarters of century of life.
Boy! A lot of water under my bridge...
The ordered 40 feet of linen bunting, and I cut it into
two 20 foot lengths. My granddaughter and her girl friend 
help me measure and nailed it to the beams.  
The next day it rained and now
the bunting is a little curly. Now my new
 bunting has a little character and so sweet.
I found my light at a yard sale and we had
an electrician wire it to the pergola.
A wonderful setting for al fresco dinner.
I found this watering can planter and petunias 
at Walmart the other day.
The watering can has holes in the bottom
and I water it every other day. Loving Summer.

It's the Little Things that Matter



Hello everyone,
Today I wanted to share with you what
ready matters to me.
It's The Little Things That Matter.

appreciating the little, everyday

there are countless gleams of gold
to be discovered in it if we give
our minds to them.

A little bird's egg has fallen from the bird's nest that
is tucked in the English Ivy covering my pergola post.
I couldn't see any other activity in the nest.
I hope the mother bird saved the egg.
I am so grateful to have a garden
full of Little Things that Matter.

To All Peony Lovers


Hello everyone,
Do you love the Peony Plant? 
I do...
My mother had a beautiful peony bed 
in her garden for many many years. 
When she passed away in 2012 I had 
the chance to dig up a large amount of
her coveted peonies and plant them
in my garden.
I planted them in a shady part of my flower bed. 
next to my angel and a fairy rose. 
The rainy weather has put a damper 
on cutting a bouquet for My Peony Tea Time.
Maybe tomorrow I can cut some of these
beauties for another photo shoot.
Every time I look at the blooms I remember 
my mother's happy smile.
