Living in Winter Comfort

Hello everyone,
Let's get cozy @ My Cozy Corner.
Let's continue my Winter home tour. The mantel is decorated for winter Go Here
I brought in oak wood for the fireplace. We have lived in our home since 1968 and
1990 was our last remodel. In the past three years we have updated the living room, master bedroom
and kitchen-dining room.  I want to share our kitchen update soon.
But today it's all about the living room in the Winter.
We spend most of daily living in our living room We have a large television and two
nice big recliners to sit comfortably across from the fireplace.
I have a blend of elements that make our room feel cozy and inviting.
Brass lamps, wood paneling and things that bring back fond memories.
Candle and Yuletide Camellias make
a colorful vignette on my coffee table.
I have a real fir tree in a little red pot and a
vase filled with silver tipped pine cones
and glass mercury bird on top. And my favorite thing is my
new COZY  pillow I received as a gift for Christmas.
Last week I added more cozy pillows and with our new
Roasted Barley carpeting installed last Spring our home
has a warm and Cozy feeling.
What a big difference from the holiday decorations, a month ago.

Living Room~Before and After

Hello everyone,
Happy September. Some pretty flowers and our Living Room reveal. Back in November 2014 We purchased new living room furniture. In May of 2015 we had our living room painted, bought new carpeting and new sheers for our windows. The old sheers were 25 years old. We still have the same drapes, because they are in perfect condition.
This is our new sofa. I just love the color and fabric.
This is our old sofa and chairs.  I took this photo last fall. Go Here to see the story of our furniture purchase.
This is one end table with our advent candle chime, which I have always had in our living room on an end table year round for over fifty years. The candy dish was my mom's and she always had candy for visitors to enjoy. The old world globe was in our home when I was a child. It has all the old countries of Europe, before they were consolidated by larger more powerful countries.  It  is so interesting to see how the world has changed in the past 75 years.
The sofa looks like leather, but it's not. I wanted a sofa with nail trim. A cloche filled with decorative pieces of wood and natural straw balls.
 I love my Wicker Demijohn...
A little basket on our coffee table with my vintage L.E. Smith amber candy dish with a straw ball and a little ceramic duck.
Nothing expresses the month of the September better than Sunflowers.
What is my style? Comfortable and cozy. I decorate with what I love. I love
wildlife. The vintage duck decoys belonged to my dad. When I was young my dad would go duck hunting every winter and put the duck decoys in the river to attract other ducks. My dad was amazing. He would bring home a limit of ducks every time.
Some pillow  love.
While my granddaughter and I were shopping at K Mart for school supplies
 I spotted this pillow

New (Old) Vanity for Guest Room

Hello everyone,
Oh, how I love to blog. I'm so excited to share with you my new(old) vanity or  dresser with a three way mirror. A friend was going off the collage and sold me this darling vanity to use in my guest room. But, I do have a dilemma. Should I paint this piece or not. I bought some ASCP Old White and was going to paint the dresser before bringing it into the guest room. I replaced the handles with some new decorative ones from Lowe's, but I think I want to live with the dark original look for awhile before starting a big  painting project. What do you think? Do I paint it or leave it looking old fashion for my guest room.
The dahlias are from my garden. I picked the dead ones and retrieved this beautiful bouquet for my guest room. The set of mirror, brush, comb and jewelry box was a Christmas gift from Sweetheart on our first  Christmas 53 years ago...
The angel was a gift from my granddaughter and the angel wings were a gift from my Sister-In-Law. The dresser scarf came from Lisa's Tea Room where my sister and I celebrated my mom's 91st birthday nine months before she passed away.
White, Pink and Rose are the colors for this room. A little light sits on the vintage night stand my sweetheart build in high school-57 years ago. The towels are tucked in the night stand and some lavender soap is going to be in a little basket for guests to use.
I forgot to put it on top of the towels today, but it will be there when guests arrive...
I love the reflection of the vase and flowers in the mirror.
The rose throw is ready for wrapping up and reading a good book. The Tea Time magazines are in the angel box below the quilt rack. I added some white sheer panels the other day for a softer look to the room. The bed has a heated mattress pad and a down comforter is near by.
A rocking chair for reading. Sweetheart bought this chair while I was delivering our first child. When I came home from the hospital this wonderful rocking chair was waiting for me. The cute bear was a gift from my mom and dad to me on my first Christmas. I was six months old.
Another story has been told and a another look into the past.
Thank you so much for visiting My Cozy Corner today.
Please come back.

Then and Now

My favorite day.  Monday!!!!

I was out of town over the weekend. On Friday evening I attended my first granddaughter's performance as 'Fantine' in Les Miserables performed entirely by students.  It was amazing.  I cried and applauded as 'My Little Song Bird'  sang "I Dreamed a Dream." Oh what a joy to see my granddaughter enjoy her life in the moment.

Today I'm joining Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday.

I want to share with you my home.  How it was Then (1969) and Now (2010).

Then

The first window is the master bedroom and second window is the living room.

The house was 800 sq ft. and it sits on eight/tenths of one acre.  The property had plenty of pine trees as you can see and there was no water as the the pump was broken and a sewer line needed to be connected to the street before it was a place where I would live.  Two bedrooms, kitchen, living room and laundry room and  the price was right.

This photo has a view of  the bay window and the front door.

More room was needed for the growing family and sweetheart did some logging on the property before construction started.

Just adding a living room and a new master bedroom.

The front door was moved around to the side of the house.  And the most beautiful old oak tree was in the back yard.

On the end of the house is one bedroom and the living room was converted into a second bedroom.  Oh!! We needed more room because with two small boys and a baby coming the small house was very small.

Now

The oak tree died about 1990 and the tree in the front yard is about 30 years old.

The window in the porch area is the master bedroom and the front door is to the left.

My sweetheart has built all the iron fencing in the front yard and completely fenced the back yard.

My sweetheart has done mostly all the interior remodeling of the original house and all of the exterior construction.  The remodels were 1970-1975. 1988-1990.  It has been 20 years since any major remodel has been done so the kitchen and dining room floor need some attention.  As I always say "I have moved 5 times to the garage, but never moved off the property". LOL:)

Patio Tour

Please join me on a tour of my patio. I moved the wicker furniture from the dining room and put a small rug in front of the swing. The two pillows and table skirt I made for $6.00.  I added a few accessories and made a mosaic.  Just a little something for everyone.

The family enjoy the patio in the spring, summer and fall.  The flower garden is doing well and I wanted to accessorize the patio for the summer months.  In July the family is getting together and I wanted the patio to be comfortable for the family visit.

I bought a window panel at Wal-Mart and made two pillows and a skirt from the fabric.

The material is a wonderful cotton duck fabric. I had two old pillows that needed a new look.

Measure the length and width of the pillow over the fullest parts and add 1 inch to both  measurements.  For the top pillow section cut to measured length and width.  Stitch trimming, if any, around edge of top section, right sides together.  For bottom section cut to measured width. To length, add 3 1/2 inches.  Fold section in half lengthwise.  Cut on fold.  Make 1-inch hem on both cut edges.  Overlap hems 1 1/2 inches.  Pin overlap together on wrong side.

Pin top and bottom sections together, right sides facing.  Stitch around edges.  Take pins from overlapped hems at center of bottom section.  Turn sham right side out and press.

With the remaining fabric I cut a square and sewed a 1/2 inch hem around the fabric.  Pressed and Ta Da...

The yarrow, veronica and Saint Patrick roses are blooming so beautifully.  I love the flowers in the french buckets.

I read in the afternoon sitting on the swing.

The television provides entertainment for the whole family.  Sports and family shows are usually watched during the family visits.

The plant rack is used to store pots and also to accessorize the patio.
