Angels and Tea Cups

Good Morning,

Sweetheart and I visited our son and granddaughters last week in Southern California. We had a great time sight seeing and laughing. I have a few travel posts, but I'll save them for another time. While I was putting all the tea cups away in the china cabinet after our kitchen update. (that's another post), I did a little angel and tea cup vignette on my vanity in my guest room. Go Here. 

I found this lovely vase at my favorite thrift store. 

When I'm out looking for new tea cups I seen to be drawn to pink tea cups.

This was my mother's favorite rosary and the gold jewelry box was a gift from my sweetheart on our First Christmas, as newlyweds. 

I love my new-old candelabra. I also found it at my favorite store.

The roses are called 'Secret'  and they are a wonderful bloomer.

I had a lace shawl and I draped it over the mirror for a romantic look.

I thought a little break from Pumpkins and Pilgrims would be nice today.

Before and After~Count Your Blessings

The Fall 

September~October~November

Hello everyone, 

November is the month dedicated to counting our blessings. I've been truly blessed with an amazing and loving husband for 53 years. My children are successful in their work and are wonderful parents to my six fabulous granddaughters. 

My retirement past time is blogging. I love sharing my retirement journey with my family, friends, followers and new visitors. 

This year has been filled with life lessons. The most important lesson I've  learned is to be gentle to myself. As I age I find my energy level has diminished. While decorating my living room mantel in September with fall decor,  I decided to decorate with a fall theme and three main elements. Then each month change the accessories to embellish the Holiday for the month.

This month is all about Thanksgiving and Gratitude
November 

The mantel illustrates the meaning of Thanksgiving.
The cornucopia overflowing with fruit, Autumn leaves, bittersweet and caramel candles with a little amber turkey and deer sheds.  

'My Little Flowers' vase is transformed with Autumn leaves and bittersweet.

The tea cart is decorated with my cloche and a wooden box from a yard sale. The fellow at the yard sale gave me the walnuts for free...  

The turkeys found my forest in the cloche and decided to stay awhile. 

I have my mother's McCoy bowl filled with pine cones and some berries. The bowl would be sitting on my mother's dining room table filled with lemons from her lemon tree.

My latest most favorite thing is iron on transfers. I bought  a 6' x 9' drop cloth at Walmart and made a pillow cover, then ironed on this transfer.

Three haunted houses are added for Halloween.

Mr Crow found his way into my cloche. LOL 

Simple additions have created three different mantels for three months.
Now I have more energy to decorate my Christmas mantel.

Santorini, Greek Islands

Oh, The Places I've Been

I truly loved this island.

Thanks for joining me on my journey.

Santorini.  The postcard island of the Greek islands.  We arrived in Santorini on Saturday, July 31, 2010.  The harbor on this island was created by a volcano in 1500 BC., and the effect is still explosive: steep cliffs rise from sea level, cubist white houses glow in the Aegean sun.

Our panoramic tour of Santorini started with the first stop at the Profitis Ilias (Prophet Elias) Mountain, offering the best views on the whole island.  Descending the mountain we stopped on the way to Oia Village to visit a winery.  We had the opportunity to see how the wine is made from the unique Santorini grapevines.  The drive to Oia definitely acquainted us the the inspiring volcanic nature of the island: and the views from various different angles were quite spectacular.  The picturesque town features blue-domed churches, old two-story mansions, and narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling hand made ceramics, paintings and semi precious jewelry.  The little town was an ideal location to capture the beauty of this remarkable island.  Transportation to the top of the mountain is cable car, riding a donkey up the hill or taking a motor coach as we did. Personally, I liked riding in the air-conditioned coach.

Santorini was our last port of call in the beautiful country of Greece.  What a wonderful experience to visit a beautiful place with blue water and white houses lining the top of the mountain.

Woodsy Tea Time

Hello everyone, 

Welcome to my Woodsy Tea.

 I love the fall air and the falling leaves. The plaid blanket is a perfect table cover for serving tea. The Tea cup and saucer have a Pheasant and a Mallard Duck on the front and back side. 

The grape vine wreath and red accents add to the glory of Fall. 

 The wooden napkin rings give the tablescape a woodsy feeling.

We're outside again under the pergola enjoying the last days of fall. The weather will soon be cooler and I'll be putting the garden to bed for the winter. 

But we can sit awhile and enjoy the last days of Fall.

With the birds circling the saucers, the wooden handled knife and red handled teaspoon make a great match for an outdoorsy look.

Cruising to Argostoli

The beautiful country of Greece was a delightful surprise. I'm so happy to share my  Golden Anniversary cruise to Greece and Italy...

I love Greece.  On Friday July 30th. 2010, our cruise ship pulled into the port of Argostoli.  Greece's best-kept secret.

We visited the Monastery of St. Andrew famous for housing a bizarre relic, which is claimed to be the sole of St. Andrew's right foot. During the 1953 earthquake the whitewashed covering of the inside of the church was loosened and revealed frescoes dating back to the 13th and 17th centuries which are now considered to be the island's biggest artistic treasures. We were not allowed to take photos, because it will damage the frescoes.  Sorry.  Next we visited the Rombola winery to gain insight into the production methods of the famous Rombola Wine made from a local species of grape, which comes in red, white and sweet Muscat.  All wineries in this area are cooperative.  Small grape vineyards contribute to the production of this wine.  This is a great help to the over all economy of the region.  Next we visited the village of Kourkoumelata.  The village was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1953 by a wealthy local citizen reconstructing the whole village in the neoclassical style.  We wandered through the village and admired the sweeping views of the sea below.  A photo stop was made at the Castle of St. George before we returned to the cruise ship.  What a glorious morning we spent, visiting the sights for one of Greece's best-kept secrets.
