White Outdoors

I have always loved white in my garden.  The heat is so intense in our area that white is just wonderful in the summer.  Other colors fade with the hot sun, but the white stays crisp and fresh.   I would love to have a garden completely planted in white, but that is for another lifetime.

Garden ornaments add interest to a garden.  As gardeners know.  A garden is always changing.  Depending on the weather, vision or time spent in the garden. 

LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME WHITE AND OUTDOORS.

 I think it's nice to have an angel in the garden.... She is so sweet.

Birds have somewhere to play.  

The strawberries have been producing for weeks and are resting now. But I found a few WHITE blooms.

The white pansies will be wilting soon.  As the weather heats up I will replace these flowers with more heat resistant plants.  I have no idea what I will put in this pot, but "that's gardening".

This duck keeps the snails from eating all the strawberries.  Ha Ha.

My sweetheart just bought this pineapple for my birthday last week.  I have always wanted to have a pineapple garden ornament. The pineapple has been a universal symbol of hospitality and welcome for centuries all over the world.

The pineapple sits on a pedestal in the middle of my rose garden next to the patio. And the angel sits on a perch watching the activity of the garden.  Keeping it safe.

Cabinet Makeover

Spring is in the air.  I have been busy doing some decorative improvements around my house this past week.  Also I had some technical improvements done to my computer. (more memory). And also great blogger assistance from Kim @ Blue Heron Cottage.

I have a three shelf cabinet in my dining area and it was just sooooo.. plain.  I would love to give the blogger credit for the idea of covering foam core with fabric and placing the piece against the back of the cabinet shelf but, I don't remember the blog where I saw the beautiful lined cabinets.  I'm so sorry.  Great idea for DIY makeover. I'm using a yellow duck cotton single panel drape I purchased at Wal-Mart for $6.00 dollars. I cut two pieces 13"x40" each and tacky glued each piece to the foam core.

The little black tea pot was my grandma's (it's old).  The little white tea pot came with a set of dishes I purchased about 20 years ago.  And, the green and white tea pot I bought at a gift shop in Brookings Oregon on a 4th of July weekend in 2008.

I love to remember where I collected my treasures.  The precious elephant tea pot is the tea pot from my childhood.  My sister and I each have a small elephant tea pot.  We would enjoy a cup of tea during the winter months. I think I was ten or eleven and I had to have my cup of tea when I came home from school and of course a cookie was added to the treat.  

I love the coffee pot from Lenox called "Butterfly Meadow" there is a butterfly on top of the lid.  I think that is why I bought it or was it because it was half price. And my pink tea pot is so versatile.  I serve tea in it. Put flowers in it. And just admire it.

The blue and white tea pot I purchased at Save Mart in Santa Clara two years ago on a visit to my Mom at Christmas time.  I was doing some grocery shopping for her (she was 87 at the time) and I spotted this tea pot. I just love blue and white.  The chocolate pot is a ceramic piece I painted in 1965.  

I love vintage pieces.  My family has enjoyed some wonderful soup dinners from this white soup tureen.  In the early seventies I purchased this tureen for Christmas Eve dinner.  I have many fond memories each time I look at the eagle on the top.

Memorial Day

I am so proud to be an American.  I belong to The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. 

A descendant of a patriot who with unfailing loyalty rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence during the Revolutionary War.

I had the honor to visit Colonial Williamsburg during a Memorial Day Commemorative Program.

Colonial Williamsburg presents a modern service honoring military veterans who died while serving their country.

I am joining Mary @ Little Red House for Mosaic Monday. I want to share with you my moving experience on Memorial Day. Please link back to Mary's house and see more Mosaics.

The Fife and Drum support the procession that starts at the Palace. Prayers are given and musket volleys are fired at the Palace and the Churchyard. 

The rector and women from the town start the procession at the palace by placing an olive branch wreath at the front gate.  They proceed to Bruton Parish Church and place a wreath there, and on to the French Grave site to place a wreath to honor those interred in or near those sites from  the American Revolution and the War Between the States.

A brief commemorative service with musket and cannon volleys take place at the French Grave site.  The French Grave site is the only location where the cannon is fired.  It was a very moving experience listening to the cannon fire and being grateful for the freedom I love.

'ICEBERG'

The ROSE that loves to bloom.  I have two large Iceberg floribundas in my rose garden.  One I bought and one that started from a small branch that I dropped while pruning. The next year the branch was a small plant.  Today four years later it is a full grown mature plant.  The profuse blooms are amazing.  The plants bloom all summer long and the white color is just beautiful.

Vintage Flax Spinning Wheel

The Flax Spinning Wheel has a great story.  I love tea carts, so I found a tea cart in the newspaper one Saturday and decided to take a look.  My sweetheart and I drove to a beautiful home and was greeted by a very sweet women.  We saw the tea cart and bought it.  Then she said " would like to buy this flax spinning wheel".  I thought it was beautiful.  The upright position was intriguing.  And the price was right. I decided to buy it.  We visited awhile and found out that we had mutual friends.  The cabinet maker that built all the cabinets in their house was the same cabinet maker that built all of our cabinets.  SMALL WORLD.  We are great friends now and call each other every month or so. I love this piece and my granddaughters love to peddle the spinning wheel as they pass by going out the front door to go home after a visit with me.

Outdoor Accessories

I love Spring.  This winter was very harsh in our area.  The temp was 17 degrees a couple of mornings.  I thought I had my tender plants protected from frost.  No!! No!! they all froze except the spider plant, which I had taken in the house to enjoy for a couple of weeks.  The spider plant stayed in the house all winter. 

Last weekend I went to the nursery and bought all new plants. 

HERE IS A LOOK......

I love angels.  This angel I painted a few years ago, but the frost cracked the paint and I just decided to leave her alone. 

The Aloe Vera plant was frozen so I trimmed off the fronds that were damaged.  The succulents in the strawberry pot were also replaced.

Well, I need to go and take some pain pills now for my aching back. Ha! Ha! Just kidding.  I love to play in the garden.

Mosaic Monday - Birthday Memories

I love to start a new week.  I think about what I am going to blog about all weekend long.  Today I am joining Mary over @Little Red House for Mosaic Monday

On April 16, 2010 my sweet brother-in-law had his 60th birthday.  On Saturday the 17th of April he had a wonderful backyard Bar-Be-Que.  I took photos of the his family and friends and made a small scrapbook for him.  While  I was watching my sister-in-law prepare the trays of food to take outside I thought they were so beautiful that I wanted to have photographs of the food, and some of the charming things in her kitchen.  I walked outside and took a photo of the beverage bar.  Ice tea, Coffee, flavored water and lemonade. Awesome.
The prize was the birthday cake.  My brother-in-law has restored a vintage British Triumph TR3 ( white and just beautiful) and his soon to be daughter-in-law baked his birthday cake with the TR3 logo on top.  The Red Velvet Cake was fabulous and the frosting was out of this world.  What a great day we had.  Good food and celebrating a birthday for someone so special.
