Winter Look

Whew!!!!!

15.5 days into January and I've put all the Christmas decorations away.

Hallelujah ~ Hallelujah

I've finally finished arranging the mantel and the living room coffee tables.

Before

It seems like yesterday that I was decorating the mantel with the angels.

After

The vintage pocket watches were handed down from family members that have passed.  I made the watch hangers from the bases of two anniversary clocks I purchased at a yard sale last year.   I use the covers of the clocks as cloches.  The other hangers are used to hang ornaments, but they work great for the watches and for very little expense. The professional watch displays are too expensive for my budget.

I have several duck prints.  The two on the mantel have the duck stamps included in the frame with the lithographs.

The two lamps on the mantel are from another room. I'm trying a new look. I usually have brass hurricane candle holders on the mantel. The old books are from a garage sale and two of the books my Sweetheart's step-grandfather wrote.   The two little ducks are souvenirs from a trip to Mexico. The mirror is a yard sale find. It was free, white and a dresser mirror with a ledge at one end.  I took the ledge off and my Sweetheart painted it black for me in about an hour.  He covered the mirror with paper and taped it down with masking tape, then used a can of black spray  paint and I had a fabulous mirror to hang over the mantel.

Yes, I love birds. Most of the art and accessories in my living room consists of wild life and travel books about some of the places I have visited.

Oh! and books about Tea.

I put the jade plants up on the top of the china cabinet until spring arrives.  The 2 big ones at each end are going to be planted in urns outside with another jade plant and displayed in the patio.  The 2 smaller ones are going to be on the Black Rack in the spring.  Not much snow here, but below freezing temps at times can take tender plants out in a heart beat.  I always try to grow everything that I once grew in Santa Clara Valley when I was first married.  The climate is perfect for every kind of plant.

The plant in the blue pot is a cutting from a friend's plant that I snipped this summer.  It is amazing.  And I love the blooms and the way it grows up and over the pot.

Some of my Rooster collection is displayed on the top.  I think they belong with the plants.  I do love my birds.

  5. Very pretty, I accidentally sold my little bird's nest when I sold a birdhouse, so I'm heading over to the Hobby Store tomorrow to pick up a new one, for some photos. Your cake plate used as a Cloche is lovely. Great displays, xoxo tami
